Non-Genuine connectors can lead to hotspots and a chance of fire due to mismatched pin sizes from poor quality control. Poor UV Treatment on Non-Genuine connectors leads to connectors becoming brittle and failing within a short period of time.
The Outer Diameter of the cable matching with the MC4 inner diameter is critical. I have seen numerous failing solar systems due to moisture ingress from the rear cable seal due to incorrect size MC4 connectors being used. Non-Genuine connectors generally come in one universal size. When fitted to smaller diameter solar cables, moisture ingress is almost guaranteed overtime leading to a poor electrical connection and limited solar harvest, hotspots and a chance of fire.
